Client Success Stories: Karol Igou

After multiple cancer diagnoses, Karol was given five years of life expectancy. Eight years later, she’s eating meat, going to CrossFit, and sharing her inspiring story.

Karol Igou was in a terrible place. Eight years ago, she was diagnosed and treated for stage 4 lung cancer, and in 2017, she was diagnosed with a stage 2 aggressive breast cancer. Eventually doctors found cancer in her brain, liver, and lymph nodes. The multiple diagnoses were blows, but she focused on her faith, and got to work getting better.

But following radiation and chemotherapy, Karol began suffering focal seizures. Her left arm would quit working, and there was nothing she could do. Her son had been eating a Keto diet, which she decided to start. About a year later, Karol saw a video I recorded with Dr. Ken Berry, and in August 2022, she decided to jump in with both feet as a carnivore.

“It was my best choice ever,” Karol said. “I’ve not had a seizure since I cut carbs out.”

Karol has surpassed her life expectancy–her doctors had said that she had five years at the most. And though she still takes oral chemo medication daily, “I have my quality of life back.” A year and a half ago, she was in respiratory therapy–unable to walk across the room without losing her breath.

These days, Karol exercises at CrossFit. Her cancer progression has stopped. “Isn’t the Lord good?” she exclaimed.

After her breast cancer diagnosis, Karol was told to avoid red meat. Recently, Karol’s neurooncologist told her he didn’t know what she was doing, but keep doing it. “I’m sad that [other cancer patients] don’t know about this.”

Every day that Karol is alive and breathing on this planet is a gift for her, for her family, and for us. I want to stress that diet alone doesn’t cure cancer. Exercise alone doesn’t cure cancer. Karol has benefited from good medical care and treatment. But these things together (and let’s not forget Karol’s faith) have brought her this far, and there’s no denying that this beautiful person is thriving in ways her doctors said would be impossible. I can’t not share this!
