Loving Yourself Through the Holidays Without Sabotage
What if love didn’t mean saying yes to every slice of pie or holiday treat? In this heartfelt episode, I share a deeply personal reflection on how food boundaries—especially during holidays—can actually be the most loving, freeing choice we make. I talk about the power of saying “no thank you” from a place of care, not restriction. Whether you’re brand new to carnivore or years into your healing journey, this is for anyone who’s ever struggled with emotional eating, sugar addiction, or feeling “left out” during special occasions.
When “Being Nice” Isn’t Actually Loving
For years, I told myself—and others—that food didn’t matter that much on birthdays or holidays. “Eat what makes you happy,” I’d say. But the truth? That kind of kindness kept me sick, inflamed, and trapped in cycles I desperately wanted to escape.
I share the moment in 2004 when my doctor told me the blunt truth: I had to change or risk losing my health. That pain became my turning point. I wasn’t told to “eat in moderation.” I was told to try something radical: cut carbs, eat meat, and give it a year. That year passed—and changed everything.
Holidays Don’t Have to Be Cheat Days
Some of us reach a point where there’s no more food drama—not even on Christmas. I don’t eat cake on my birthday any more than someone with a peanut allergy would have a “just one bite” exception. It’s not deprivation. It’s choosing peace.
When you know what sugar does to your body—how it steals your energy, inflames your joints, and reignites addiction—you stop romanticizing it. I’ve never regretted the cookie I didn’t eat. But I’ve sure regretted the ones I did.
Practical Tools for Staying Free
- Decide in advance what foods are off-limits.
- Bring your own meat-based snacks.
- Step away and breathe when cravings hit.
- Use your memory: “Has this ever ended well?”
- Think of your tomorrow-morning self—she deserves to wake up proud.

You Deserve This Kind of Freedom
For over 16 years, I’ve stayed the course—not because I’m perfect, but because I’m free. That freedom came with support, truth, and community. If you’re tired of the food obsession, or you just want to enjoy your life without backsliding into sugar traps, you don’t have to do it alone.
Our coaching groups at My Zero Carb Life offer more than just guidance—they’re filled with real people who get it. Your tribe is waiting. And together, we choose joy. We choose peace. We choose to stay free.
