The Year My Body Craved Fat (And I Listened)
I’ve been on the carnivore path for over 16 years now, eating mostly burger patties, steak, eggs, and fish. But in 2025, something surprising happened—my body started deeply craving fat. Not just fatty cuts of meat, but actual fat: egg yolks, heavy cream, beef trimmings, and butter.
I didn’t plan an experiment. I wasn’t following a trend. I was simply honoring what my body seemed to be asking for. What followed was the most unexpected (and delicious) year of eating I’ve ever had.
117 Days of Just Fat? Yup.
I ended up eating pure fat on 117 separate days last year. That’s 32% of the whole year. The rest of my meals were still high-fat, low-protein—often over 80% of my calories from fat. I know that sounds wild. I would’ve thought the same thing five years ago!
But I kept waiting for something bad to happen—weight gain, muscle loss, inflammation, blood sugar spikes. Instead?
I felt fantastic. My energy was solid, my workouts didn’t suffer, and my digestion was better than ever.
The Lab Results Are In
Even with all that fat (and a LOT of heavy cream), my doctor was shocked:
- My total cholesterol dropped 100 points
- HDL (the good cholesterol) went up to 77
- Triglycerides came back at 66 (elite level!)
- A1C dropped to 4.6—even lower than during my “regular” carnivore years
- CRP (inflammation marker) was 0.3—very low
I never skipped meals. I didn’t fast. I averaged 2,344 calories per day, eating three to four times daily. This wasn’t deprivation—it was delicious freedom.

This Isn’t a Rulebook—It’s Just My Story
I’m not here to tell you to drop protein or live on fat alone. Protein is essential. But if your body starts whispering—or shouting—that it wants something different, I want you to know: it’s okay to listen.
In my coaching groups, we talk through this stuff together. If you’re craving fat, questioning macros, or just needing a tribe that gets it, come join us inside My Zero Carb Life coaching. We experiment, share real results, and remind each other: there’s more than one way to heal.

Great info Kelly! Thank you for sharing. I needed to know about not eating dairy with the protein!! I’m going to try that. Love your energy and your sense of humor 🤗. Also, I’m very sad that coffee raises triglycerides…..I’ve suspected that from experience.
I am intrigued with trying a fat fast…I have been ketovore for several years. I tolerate my high fat diet. I don’t have a gallbladder. Wondering if you think I would tolerate a fat fast?? maybe some of your support group members have the experience of fat only in a person without a gallbladder. Thoughts?
Did I miss what fats? Heavy cream in ice cream. No mixing meat and heavy cream. In only fat days what did you eat icecream and fat trimmimgs from butcher. Thank you for education
