What if one simple photo could change the way you see your future—and your past?
In this episode of My Zero Carb Life, I stepped away from the usual talk of macros and lab numbers to share something more emotional and, honestly, life-changing. Inspired by a conversation between Dr. Annette Bosworth and behavioral expert Chase Hughes, I tried three mindset exercises that moved me—and then I brought them to my group coaching members. The results? Powerful. Transformative. And too good not to share with you.
1. See Your Future Self—Before You Get There
Using ChatGPT, I asked for a side-by-side image of myself at age 60 and 70: one if I’d stayed on the path of junk food and poor health, and the other if I keep walking, lifting, eating real meat, and avoiding carbs. The emotional response was intense. I felt angry, then grateful, and then just determined. That visual was a gift—and dozens in our community tried it too, many saying it helped them stay the course like nothing else.
2. Flip the Script and Feel the Truth
Next, I tried writing the opposite of what I know is true. It’s called cognitive friction. Imagine saying, “The taste of this junk food is worth dementia and disability.” Your brain knows that’s false—and it will fight to defend what’s true. Pairing this with the photo collage was deeply motivating.
3. Thank Your Past Self
I wrote a letter to my former self—the one who struggled, but who chose change. Instead of shame, I now feel gratitude. She did the work. And I’m here today because of her.
Don’t go it alone.
Inside My Zero Carb Life coaching groups, we explore tools like these together—with support, laughter, and sometimes tears. Real change happens when you’re surrounded by people who get it. We do this work together, one meal, one habit, one small win at a time.
