Cutting calories but not losing weight? Here’s why.

Calorie deficits, slow metabolism, and no weight loss

I’ve been reflecting on an issue that affects many, particularly women: long-term under-eating. When you’ve been consuming too few calories for an extended period, your metabolism may slow down, making it harder to lose weight even when you reduce calories further. This can lead to frustration and the mistaken belief that you’re not trying hard enough. But the reality is, your body might be in need of a metabolic reset before any successful weight loss can occur.

This is where reverse dieting comes in. Reverse dieting is the process of slowly and deliberately increasing your caloric intake to bring your body back to maintenance levels without gaining weight. This gradual increase helps to restore your metabolism, giving it the energy it needs to function optimally. Once you’ve reached a stable maintenance level, your body is better prepared for any future “cut” or calorie reduction aimed at fat loss.

In this YouTube video, Katie Kelly and I dive into the specifics of how to implement a reverse diet. We’ll discuss strategies for increasing your calories slowly and explain why tracking your progress is essential—especially when results seem stagnant. By carefully monitoring your intake and your body’s responses, you can successfully reverse diet without unnecessary weight gain and set yourself up for long-term success.

Reverse dieting might sound counterintuitive, but it’s a powerful tool for those who have been chronically under-eating. Taking the time to rebuild your metabolism can make all the difference in achieving your health and fitness goals. I hope you’re taking care of yourself by eating some tasty and nutritious meat and by giving yourself the time and grace to heal.

If you’ve ever made it through a successful Reverse Diet or if you think you NEED to do a Reverse Diet, please comment on the video! I would love to hear your story!
